Stand-in wicketkeeper Jordan Cox is ruled out of the New Zealand series
England wicketkeeper-batter Jordan Cox has been ruled out of the upcoming Test series against New Zealand after fracturing his right thumb during a net session in Queenstown.
England have yet to name a replacement.
Cox, who was set to make his Test debut as a stand-in for Jamie Smith—currently on paternity leave—was injured ahead of the second and final day of the warm-up match against the New Zealand Prime Minister’s XI at Sir John Davies Oval.
In Cox’s absence, Ollie Pope took over wicketkeeping duties for the final day of the warm-up game.
“I’m gutted for Jordan,” said England head coach Brendon McCullum.
“He had been looking sharp with both the bat and gloves since arriving in New Zealand.
Unfortunately, that’s sport, and these things happen.
We’ll rally around him and support him.
He’s resilient, and his time will come in the future.”
