Keeper-bat Ollie Robinson has been called up to replace the injured Jordan Cox
England have added Durham keeper-bat Ollie Robinson to their Test squad following an injury to Jordan Cox, who has been ruled out of the ongoing Test tour of New Zealand.
Cox was sidelined after fracturing his right thumb during a warm-up match against a Prime Minister’s XI in Queenstown.
As a result, Ollie Pope stepped in to take the gloves for the opening Test, which began on Thursday (November 28) in Christchurch.
Prior to his injury, Cox was set for a potential Test debut, with incumbent keeper-bat Jamie Smith unavailable due to paternity leave.
Notably, Robinson was in contention for the spot that eventually went to Smith at the start of England’s home summer, having impressed with his performances since his move from Kent to Durham.
Robinson has scored nine first-class centuries, five of which came after his move to the northeast, and he boasts an average of 53.
He has also made 92 dismissals behind the stumps.
Robinson will be available for selection for the second Test of the three-match series, which begins at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on December 6.
The third Test is scheduled for Hamilton on December 14.
*Note: This Ollie Robinson is a keeper-bat and should not be confused with the fast bowler of the same name.
