Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik will not be participating in the first round of the upcoming Duleep Trophy due to illness, and they are not expected to recover in time for the start of the competition, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced in a release on Tuesday (August 27).
Ravindra Jadeja has also been released from the Team B squad, though the BCCI did not disclose the reason.
Navdeep Saini has been named as Siraj’s replacement in Team B, while Gaurav Yadav will step in for Malik in Team C.
Meanwhile, Nitish Reddy’s participation, who is also part of Team B, remains uncertain due to fitness concerns.
Nitish was recently selected for the India squad for the Zimbabwe series but had to be replaced due to a sports hernia.
The tournament is set to begin on September 5, with Team A facing Team B at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, and Team C taking on Team D at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur.
The four teams will be led by Shubman Gill (Team A), Abhimanyu Easwaran (Team B), Ruturaj Gaikwad (Team C), and Shreyas Iyer (Team D).
