Duleep Trophy 2024 : Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the first Duleep Trophy match

Ishan is dealing with a groin injury

Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the first round of the 2024 Duleep Trophy due to a groin injury sustained during the Buchi Babu tournament, as confirmed by the BCCI.

The wicketkeeper-batter, who was initially named in Shreyas Iyer-led Team D, will be replaced by Sanju Samson, who had not been selected for any team prior.

Kishan’s availability for the later stages of the four-day first-class competition remains uncertain, and it may depend on his selection for the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh.

However, there is a possibility he could return for Team D’s second match against Team A on September 12 in Anantapur.

Kishan’s participation in the Buchi Babu tournament was brief, as Jharkhand was knocked out after the league stage.

He featured in two games, scoring a century (114) and an unbeaten 41 in the first match but managed only 1 and 5 in the second before elimination.

His inclusion in the Duleep Trophy suggests that the selectors are softening their stance after sidelining him last season for missing Ranji Trophy matches against BCCI directives.

Additionally, Surya Kumar Yadav will miss the opening round due to a thumb injury, while Prasidh Krishna’s comeback from a quad injury has been delayed, with the pacer missing Team A’s first game in Bengaluru on September 5.

Ajay Ratra, newly appointed as a selector, will begin his duties with the matches in Anantapur.
