New Zealand fast bowler Doug Bracewell has served a one-month backdated ban after testing positive for cocaine.
The 34-year-old tested positive for the banned substance following a T20 match between Central Stags and Wellington in January 2024, where he had been named Player of the Match for figures of 2/21 with the ball and a quick-fire 30 runs off 11 balls with the bat.
The Sports Integrity Commission Te Kahu Raunui imposed the ban on Bracewell.
However, it was determined that the cocaine consumption occurred prior to the start of the tournament, leading to a reduced sentence.
Originally set at three months, the ban was reduced to one month after Bracewell completed a treatment program to address the substance use.
The one-month suspension was backdated to April 2024, meaning Bracewell has already served the ban and is eligible to resume playing cricket at any time.
Bracewell’s most recent appearance for New Zealand was in a Test against Sri Lanka in March 2023 in Wellington.
He has represented his country in 69 matches across all formats (28 Tests, 21 ODIs, 20 T20Is).
