Dulip Samaraweera, the former Sri Lankan cricketer, has been banned from holding any position with Cricket Australia or any State or Territory Association (including any W/BBL Team) for 20 years.
This decision follows his serious breach of the Code of Conduct, as announced by Cricket Australia on Thursday.
The Conduct Commission determined that Samaraweera’s actions violated section 2.23 of CA’s Code of Conduct.
These breaches occurred while he was employed as the head coach of Cricket Victoria, a role he resigned from in May after just two weeks.
Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins had commented at the time of Samaraweera’s resignation, stating, “During the recruitment process, Dulip expressed a desire to make a specific coaching appointment within his support team.
This appointment could not be accommodated due to our internal policies.
After further discussions, Dulip chose to step down from the role.”
In its statement on Thursday, Cricket Australia added, “The CA Integrity Department investigates complaints under Integrity Codes and Policies applicable to State and Territory Associations.
The Conduct Commission addresses matters referred by CA Integrity.
Both CA and CV are dedicated to ensuring a safe environment for all players and staff, with a strong emphasis on the welfare of those affected by mistreatment.”
Samaraweera, who had a brief international career from 1993 to 1995, played seven Tests and five T20Is.
