David Miller celebrates after hitting a six, while Trinbago Knight Riders' fielders look dejected in the background during the CPL eliminator.

CPL 2024 : David Miller’s heroics has outshined Pooran’s masterclass as Royals knock out TKR

David Miller’s blistering 17-ball 50 overshadowed Nicholas Pooran’s 91 from the first innings.

Trinbago Knight Riders scored 163/5 in 19.1 overs, where as Barbados Royals scored 64/1 in 4.2 overs.

So, finally Barbados Royals won by nine wickets (DLS method).

David Miller unleashed a blistering 17-ball 50 as the Barbados Royals crushed the Trinbago Knight Riders by nine wickets in the CPL eliminator at Providence Stadium, Guyana.

The second innings was reduced to five overs due to a floodlight failure, setting the Royals a target of 60, which initially seemed challenging.

Rovman Powell opted to open with the in-form Quinton de Kock, but de Kock fell to Sunil Narine shortly after hitting a boundary.

Despite this early breakthrough for TKR, Miller’s arrival at No. 3 turned the chase into a formality.

Miller wasted no time, launching a cross-batted swipe against Narine in his first over, followed by four more sixes and three boundaries.

Powell, looking rusty, played a secondary role as Miller tore into TKR’s bowling attack.

The Royals captain had a slice of luck when Chris Jordan induced a mistimed shot, but replays showed a front-foot no-ball.

Powell managed to hit a six in the same over, but the chase belonged to Miller, finishing the game with four balls to spare.

Despite the straightforward chase, Royals were on the verge of elimination when the floodlights failed with five balls remaining in the Knight Riders’ innings.

Nicholas Pooran (91* off 60) was closing in on his second consecutive T20 century, anchoring the innings while other batters struggled for rhythm.

Jason Roy (25 off 17) found some form in the Powerplay, but the big-hitters—Kieron Pollard (17 off 19) and Andre Russell (20* off 18)—failed to time the ball.

The Royals’ bowlers used the conditions smartly, taking pace off and bowling hard lengths to force errors.

Although they faltered slightly towards the end, Naveen-ul-Haq (1-25) delivered a standout performance, utilizing the surface expertly.

TKR failed to maximize their batting depth, lacking the intent to push the scoring rate.

The floodlight failure caused a nearly two-hour delay, raising concerns of an abandonment, which would have seen TKR progress due to their higher standing on the points table.

However, with minutes left before the cut-off for a five-over chase, the floodlights were restored, giving the Royals a lifeline.

The shortened chase favored the Royals’ power-hitters, and Miller, with his explosive knock, single-handedly sent TKR packing.
