St Lucia Kings faced a major setback ahead of CPL 2024 as star wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen withdrew from the tournament due to a family emergency.
The team has brought in New Zealand’s Tim Seifert as a replacement.
Klaasen was signed by the Kings in June, prior to the draft.
The South African, who previously played five games for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in 2022 with modest returns, has since become one of the most formidable batters in T20 cricket, boasting a strike rate of 150.18.
His replacement, Seifert, has a strong T20 record and was part of the Trinbago Knight Riders’ CPL-winning squad in 2020.
Another notable absence from the league is Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza, who announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he would miss the entire season due to an unspecified injury. St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots have yet to name a replacement.
Meanwhile, Tim David, another pre-draft signing, will join Trinbago Knight Riders only after their first four games of the season.
To cover for the big-hitting Australian, the franchise has temporarily signed USA’s Andries Gous.
Barbados Royals have also made adjustments, signing Sri Lankan all-rounder Dunith Wellalage and Shamarh Brooks as temporary replacements for the Proteas duo of Keshav Maharaj and David Miller, who are expected to miss the first two games to attend the Cricket South Africa awards function on September 5.
