So, finally Guyana Amazon Warriors beat St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by 30 runs.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors kicked off their home leg of CPL 2024 in style with a thrilling 30-run victory over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at the Providence Stadium on Friday.

After being put in to bat, the home team managed a modest total of 137, thanks largely to vital contributions from Shimron Hetmyer (63 off 33) and Romario Shepherd (34* off 22).

In reply, the Patriots’ chase faltered as only three batters reached double figures, with Evin Lewis (49 off 46) standing as the sole resistance.

On a typical Guyana pitch offering plenty of spin, the Warriors’ innings got off to a disastrous start, losing openers Tim Robinson and Kevin Sinclair for ducks to Ashmead Nedd (4-25).

Kyle Mayers further dented the Warriors’ progress by dismissing Shai Hope for just seven.

However, Hetmyer was in exceptional form, counter-attacking with ease and dominating the Patriots’ bowlers.

His powerful knock of 63 kept the scoreboard ticking before Tabraiz Shamsi trapped him LBW.

By the time of his dismissal, Hetmyer had single-handedly lifted the total to 83, but the innings stuttered again until Shepherd’s valuable late cameo gave the Warriors a fighting chance.

Chasing 138, the Patriots struggled right from the powerplay, managing just 27 runs.

Moeen Ali (2-9) was brilliant in the early overs, getting the ball to turn sharply and applying immense pressure.

Though Lewis tried to keep his side in the game, wickets tumbled around him, and the increasing required run rate took its toll.

Once Lewis fell to Dwaine Pretorius, young Shamar Joseph (3-9) cleaned up the tail, sealing a memorable win for the Warriors.
