Guyana Amazon Warriors scored 207/7 in 20 overs, where as Saint Lucia Kings scored 172/7 in 20 overs.

So, finally Guyana Amazon Warriors beat Saint Lucia Kings by 35 runs.

A dominant batting display, highlighted by half-centuries from Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer, has positioned the Guyana Amazon Warriors on the verge of clinching the top spot in CPL 2024.

In the penultimate league match of the season, Guyana triumphed over the Saint Lucia Kings, who are now left anxiously awaiting to see if they can retain their second position in the table.

Saint Lucia struggled in their run chase, though Faf du Plessis’s valiant effort ensured they didn’t fall significantly behind in net run rate.

Guyana started explosively as Azam Khan attacked Alzarri Joseph, hitting boundaries before a top edge led to his dismissal for a quick 26 off 11 balls.

The batting side had to regroup after losing the other opener, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, just before the powerplay concluded.

Hetmyer kept the momentum going by consistently finding the boundary, while Hope began his innings more cautiously.

Even a six midway through his innings did little to elevate his strike rate, as Hetmyer provided the necessary impetus.

Hetmyer scored a brisk 50 off just 26 balls, maintaining Guyana’s dominance until he was dismissed by Joseph.

Hope eventually found his rhythm, targeting Khary Pierre with three sixes in an over, bringing up his fifty off 29 balls.

Although the remaining batsmen struggled to make a significant impact in the closing overs, Guyana still crossed the 200-run mark.

Saint Lucia entered the chase with determination as du Plessis targeted Romario Shepherd, who endured an eventful over that saw him concede three fours and a six.

The chase got off to a rapid start, with the team scoring 63 runs in the Powerplay but losing two wickets in the process.

Things worsened when Imran Tahir dismissed Roston Chase with a googly in the seventh over, giving Guyana complete control.

The spin trio of Tahir, Moeen Ali, and Gudakesh Motie reduced Saint Lucia to 101 for 6, with du Plessis fighting a lone battle.

Battling cramps, he continued to bat deep into the innings despite wickets falling around him.

With only 121 runs on the board from 17 overs, du Plessis and Joseph rallied for crucial runs in the final three overs.

In particular, the last over from Junior Sinclair saw du Plessis smash three sixes, while Joseph cleared the ropes once, allowing them to limit the defeat to 35 runs.
