So, finally Guyana Amazon Warriors beat Barbados Royals by 8 wickets.

Defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors secured a spot in the CPL 2024 final with a commanding eight-wicket victory over Barbados Royals in a one-sided Qualifier 2.

A disciplined bowling performance from the Amazon Warriors, spearheaded by Romario Shepherd (3-35) and Moeen Ali (2-24), restricted the Royals to a modest total of 148.

The top order excelled for the Amazon Warriors, with Shai Hope scoring a half-century and forming a 93-run partnership with Moeen (44*), guiding the team to victory with 5.3 overs to spare.

Moeen set the tone for the chase by hitting a couple of boundaries in the first two overs before Gurbaz took charge, launching into successive sixes off Maheesh Theekshana.

Gurbaz then scored 18 off the fourth over bowled by Naveen-ul-Haq, which included a six and two fours.

Though Theekshana claimed Gurbaz’s wicket for 40 off 18, the Amazon Warriors continued their aggressive pursuit, scoring 18 runs in the sixth over from Jason Holder, with Hope contributing two fours and a six.

The Amazon Warriors reached 72 in the powerplay and surged to 113 by the halfway mark as Hope and Moeen formed a brisk half-century partnership.

Apart from a quiet seventh over bowled by Ramon Simmonds, where only four runs were scored, the remaining overs were fruitful for the Amazon Warriors, as Hope and Moeen consistently hit boundaries and reduced the target to 36 runs from the last 60 balls.

Hope reached the 40s with two successive fours off Theekshana in the 11th over and brought up a 26-ball fifty two overs later.

Moeen joined the celebrations, hitting a four off Obed McCoy and taking the winning single in the 15th over after Hope was bowled by Simmonds.

In the first innings, Quinton de Kock struck a four and a six in the first three overs but was ultimately contained and dismissed, caught and bowled by Gudakesh Motie for a run-a-ball 15.

Rahkeem Cornwall hit several boundaries before falling to Shepherd.

The Royals managed only 41 in the powerplay, and just as Alick Athanaze and Kadeem Alleyne seemed poised to accelerate, both were dismissed in quick succession by Moeen Ali and Imran Tahir.

Rovman Powell attempted to shift the momentum back with a four and a six off Moeen but fell to a catch in the deep, further complicating matters for the Royals.

David Miller contributed a quick 36 off 26 balls, hitting a couple of sixes off Tahir, as the Royals aimed for a total near 160.

However, they failed to surpass 150 as Shepherd claimed two wickets in the final over, compounded by two run-outs that thwarted the Royals’ hopes of a strong finish.
