Antigua and Barbuda Falcons secured their first win of the CPL after four consecutive defeats, narrowly beating the Trinbago Knight Riders by six runs in a thrilling contest.
Fabian Allen was the star of the show, contributing a quickfire 25 and claiming three key wickets along with two catches.
Imad Wasim (46), Fakhar Zaman (38), and Mohammad Amir (1-24 in 4 overs) also played crucial roles in the victory, which came in the Falcons’ final home game of the tournament.
Sent in to bat, Zaman and Justin Greaves gave the Falcons a solid start.
Greaves launched Akeal Hosein for a maximum over extra-cover, while Zaman survived a short ball and benefitted from a dropped catch.
The opening pair’s aggressive play led to their first 50-run stand of the tournament.
Sunil Narine eventually dismissed Greaves with a stumping, and the Knight Riders’ fielding errors allowed the Falcons to build a strong foundation.
Waqar Salamkheil then removed Zaman and Roshon Primus, reducing the Falcons’ momentum.
Wasim provided stability with a quick 46, hitting Narine and Salamkheil for boundaries.
Allen’s cameo of 25, featuring two fours and a six, bolstered the Falcons’ total.
Wasim was out off the penultimate ball, but the Falcons set a competitive total.
In reply, the Knight Riders lost Narine for a duck and struggled against Amir’s tight bowling.
Andries Gous and Shaqkere Parris initially kept the chase alive, but their partnership faltered as Parris and Pooran fell to Allen in a dramatic 10th over.
Allen continued to dismantle the batting lineup, dismissing Gous with a catch at deep mid-wicket.
Primus faced a tough over as Pollard and Carty hit him for big runs.
Carty’s aggressive play kept the Knight Riders in contention, but Amir’s return was crucial as he dismissed Pollard.
The match tightened as Russell’s six was followed by a crucial catch by Allen off Primus, and Carty was dismissed by Shamar Springer.
With 14 runs needed off the last over, Hosein hit a boundary but was run out, and Akeal Hosein’s dot-ball sealed the Falcons’ first win of the campaign.
