Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Faruque Ahmed has reassured BPL players that they will receive their payments from the respective franchises.

Apart from the defending champions, Fortune Barishal, none of the seven teams in the competition provided the required bank guarantee to the BCB.

This guarantee typically allowed the board to clear players’ payments if the franchises failed to do so.

However, with no guarantees this season, the players’ payment situation remains uncertain.

“We have been in regular communication with the BPL franchise owners since day one, and I have told them that they must ensure players are paid,” Faruque told reporters on Wednesday.

“When asked for a definitive reason behind the franchises not providing the guarantee money, I don’t have a clear answer.

You have to understand the overall situation from everyone’s perspective over the last four months,” he explained.

“However, this does not mean that the players won’t get paid.

We have taken several steps to make sure this happens.

As board president, I have personally spoken to the franchise representatives and emphasized that we are partners in this venture.

They are also investing in Bangladesh cricket,” he added.

On the opening day of the BPL, Durbar Rajshahi captain Anamul Haque Bijoy was asked about the payment situation.

While confirming the delayed payments, he expressed no major concerns.

“We haven’t received any payments yet, none of us have.

The BPL has just started.

We don’t want to raise any issues or cause complications.

Cricketers don’t want that either.

The BPL is watched globally, and we don’t want such news about non-payment to affect the international reputation of the tournament,” said the former national opener.

“We want to approach the BPL positively.

The owners won’t leave without paying us, and the BCB will ensure this matter is resolved.

We believe the delay is due to logistical reasons, and we trust it will be sorted out appropriately,” he added.
