England Test captain Ben Stokes has been ruled out for the remainder of the English summer after suffering a hamstring injury during The Hundred.
The allrounder tore his left hamstring while playing for the Northern Superchargers on Sunday.
Following scans conducted in Leeds on Tuesday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that Stokes will miss the upcoming three-match Test series against Sri Lanka.
Stokes is aiming for a return in time for England’s tour of Pakistan, scheduled for early October.
The Test series against Sri Lanka, England’s next assignment, is set to begin on August 21 at Old Trafford.
With no replacement named for Stokes, the squad will now be led by Ollie Pope.
