Ben Curran has moved a step closer to representing Zimbabwe after receiving his maiden call-up for the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan.
The son of former Zimbabwe cricketer Kevin Curran and the brother of Tom and Sam Curran, Ben has earned this opportunity following his impressive performances in domestic cricket.
Alongside Ben, Zimbabwe has also handed a maiden call-up to 18-year-old left-arm pacer Newman Nyamhuri.
Nyamhuri caught the eye earlier this year during the Under-19 World Cup in South Africa, where he was Zimbabwe’s highest wicket-taker.
Unlike Ben, Nyamhuri has been included in both the ODI and T20I squads.
The two newcomers replace Faraz Akram, Brandon Mavuta, and Clive Madande, who is recovering from a shoulder dislocation.
The rest of the squad remains unchanged from the one that faced Pakistan at the end of last month.
While Zimbabwe lost that series, they managed to defeat Pakistan in the first ODI.
In the T20I squad, the only changes are the inclusions of Nyamhuri and Takudzwanashe Kaitano, who replace Madande and Mavuta.
Afghanistan’s tour will begin with a three-match T20I series in Harare from December 11-14, followed by three ODIs at the same venue.
