Matthew Mott, former head coach of England’s men’s and Australia’s women’s teams, has joined the Sydney Sixers as an assistant coach on a three-year contract.
He will work alongside head coach Greg Shipperd, replacing Cameron White, who was appointed head coach of the Melbourne Renegades in June.
Mott boasts a remarkable coaching career.
As head coach of the Australian women’s team, he led them to victories in the 2022 ODI World Cup and the 2018 and 2020 T20 World Cups.
He also guided England’s men to the T20 World Cup title in 2022.
Returning to Sydney, where his coaching journey began in 2007 as head coach of the New South Wales Blues, Mott expressed his excitement about reuniting with the Sixers.
“I’m thrilled to rejoin the Sydney Sixers,” Mott said.
“Sydney holds great memories for me, and working with Greg Shipperd, someone I have immense respect for, is a fantastic opportunity.”
Rachael Haynes, General Manager of the Sydney Sixers, emphasized the significance of Mott’s addition to the team.
“We’re absolutely delighted to have Motty on board for the next three years.
His expertise is invaluable, and having a coach of his stature is a huge asset for our playing group.”
The Sixers will kick off their BBL campaign against the Melbourne Renegades on December 16.
