Pakistan’s star pacer, Shaheen Shah Afridi, is set to make his debut in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) after being signed by reigning champions, Fortune Barishal.
The 11th edition of the BPL is scheduled to kick off on December 30, with Fortune Barishal taking on newcomers Durbar Rajshahi at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
In a statement, Fortune Barishal confirmed the signing of Afridi, noting that the 24-year-old left-arm pacer will play for the team as a direct signing.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has granted Afridi a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to be available for the opening five games of the competition, with his NOC valid until January 15.
Other direct signings for Fortune Barishal include Kyle Mayers, Dawid Malan, Mohammad Nabi, Faheem Ashraf, Ali Mohammad, and Jahandad Khan.
Additionally, James Fuller, Pathum Nissanka, and Nandre Burger were selected from the player draft.
Fortune Barishal’s squad is further strengthened by a strong group of local players, including Tamim Iqbal, Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Tanvir Islam, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Ripon Mondol, Ebadot Hossain, Nayeem Hasan, Rishad Hossain, and Taijul Islam.
The BPL, featuring seven franchises, will run until February 7, with teams such as Dhaka Capitals, Chittagong Kings, Durbar Rajshahi, Fortune Barishal, Khulna Tigers, Rangpur Riders, and Sylhet Strikers competing in the tournament.
