Bangladesh Cricket Board officials announced their intention to schedule a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in November as part of their preparations for the West Indies tour.
Bangladesh is set to visit the West Indies from November to December, where they will play two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is.
To gear up for this tour and the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, the BCB aims to play these three ODIs, especially since they have yet to finalize any 50-over matches against international teams aside from the three ODIs against the West Indies.
Previously, the BCB had announced an all-format series against Afghanistan, which included two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is scheduled for July following the ICC T20 World Cup, but it was postponed.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board later revised the itinerary, proposing to host the three ODIs and as many T20Is in Greater Noida from July 25 to August 6, which was also postponed.
BCB President Faruque Ahmed stated on Thursday (September 27) that they are keen on playing the three ODIs against Afghanistan en route to the West Indies, viewing it as crucial preparation for the Champions Trophy.
“We are trying to play three ODIs on our way to the West Indies,” Ahmed said, noting that discussions had taken place with the Afghanistan Cricket Board in Kuala Lumpur about the series.
ACB Chief Executive Naseeb Khan confirmed to Cricpulse on Friday that they are awaiting a final decision from their Bangladeshi counterparts.
“We are in touch with them (BCB), but we have to wait for a final answer,” Khan stated, adding that the series is expected to take place in the UAE in November.
