Mushfiqur Rahim is currently undergoing rehab for a fracture to his left index finger.

Bangladesh’s veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies, scheduled to begin on November 22.

A member of the national selection panel confirmed the news to Cricpulse on Friday, adding that the 37-year-old is expected to be available for the ODI portion of the series.

Mushfiqur sustained a fracture to the tip of his left index finger while keeping wickets during the first ODI against Afghanistan in Sharjah.

As a result, he was also ruled out of the ongoing three-match ODI series.

It is understood that his recovery will take at least four to six weeks, meaning he will miss the two Tests against the West Indies.

“He (Mushfiqur) is not playing the Test series against the West Indies as it will take at least a month or more to recover,” said the selector.

Regarding the ODIs, the selector added, “We will assess his progress and make a decision closer to that time.”

After the two Tests, Bangladesh will also play three ODIs and as many T20Is against the West Indies.

It is expected that Mushfiqur will rejoin the team for the ODIs, subject to his recovery, as he has already retired from T20I cricket.

Mushfiqur, who typically bats at number four or five, was forced to bat at number seven in the opening ODI against Afghanistan after the injury.

Following that match, he was ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series and is expected to return home soon.

Meanwhile, the team management has not yet made any move to replace Mushfiqur in the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan.

While there were speculations that Litton Das might take his place in the squad, the selector denied these rumors.

“Liton is traveling to Dubai for personal reasons and will rejoin the squad when they depart for the West Indies,” the official clarified, adding that Litton is still recovering from a recent fever.
