Injured Najmul Hossain has been ruled out of Test series against West Indies
Bangladesh were dealt a significant blow ahead of the series decider against Afghanistan on Monday (November 11), as captain Najmul Hossain was ruled out of the match due to a groin injury.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) also confirmed that Najmul will miss the upcoming Test series against the West Indies later this month.
Najmul sustained the injury while fielding during the second ODI, forcing him to leave the field temporarily.
Mehidy Hasan took over the captaincy in his absence.
“Due to a groin injury, Najmul is not playing the last game against Afghanistan,” BCB chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain confirmed to Cricpulse.
Najmul had been in excellent form during the series, with his 76-run knock in the second ODI helping Bangladesh level the series.
“Shanto underwent an MRI in Sharjah yesterday,” BCB Senior Physician Dr. Debashis Chowdhury said.
“We have received the team physio’s report and the scan results, which confirmed a Grade II strain on his left groin.
This will require rest and rehabilitation.
He has been ruled out of the third ODI against Afghanistan and will also be unavailable for the West Indies Test series.
We will reassess his condition after two weeks.
He will return home from the UAE to continue his rehab.”
Mehidy Hasan will now lead Bangladesh in the third ODI against Afghanistan and is also expected to captain the Test side in Najmul’s absence during the West Indies tour.
Bangladesh are already missing veteran Mushfiqur Rahim in the ongoing ODI series, and the wicketkeeper-batsman will also be absent from the Test squad for the West Indies series.
