Mushfiqur Rahim is unavailable for the West Indies ODIs and Najmul Hossain Shanto is doubtful
Bangladesh Cricket Board officials announced on Sunday that experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim will not be available for the ODI series against the West Indies, while skipper Najmul Hossain is also doubtful.
Both players missed the Test series against the West Indies due to injuries sustained during the ODI series against Afghanistan.
Mushfiqur injured the tip of his left index finger while keeping wickets in the opening ODI against Afghanistan in the UAE.
An X-ray confirmed a fracture, ruling him out for four to six weeks.
In the second ODI, Najmul sustained a groin injury while fielding.
Scans revealed a Grade II strain on his left groin, which also kept him out of the Test series against the West Indies.
“As far as Mushfiqur is concerned, I don’t think he will be ready for the ODIs against the West Indies, as he will need more time to recover,” a BCB official told Cricpulse.
“We haven’t announced our squad yet as we’re closely monitoring the progress of our regular skipper Najmul to see if he will be fit in time,” he added.
“We cannot afford to take any risks with his groin injury.
If he aggravates it by playing the ODIs against the West Indies, he could be sidelined for one to one and a half months, which could be quite damaging, especially with the Champions Trophy ahead.
However, from what I understand, he is progressing well,” the official said.
The ODI series is scheduled to begin on December 8, followed by the T20I series starting on December 16.
