Mehidy will captain the side during the ODI leg of the tour.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced on Monday that all-rounder Mehidy Hasan will captain the 15-member ODI squad in the absence of regular skipper Najmul Hossain for the upcoming three-match series, which is scheduled to begin on December 8 in St Kitts.

Cricpulse previously reported that Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain were unlikely to feature in the ODIs as they are recovering from respective injuries.

The team management is also concerned about Towhid Hridoy, who sustained a groin injury while playing football.

“All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will lead the Bangladesh side in ODIs for the first time in the absence of Najmul Hossain Shanto, who is still recovering from a groin injury,” the BCB said in a statement.

“Hridoy complained of pain in his right groin region, and subsequent investigations have confirmed a medical condition.

He has been advised rest, and we will reassess him in two weeks to determine his readiness to play,” added BCB Sports Physician Monzur Hossain Chowdhury.

Wicket-keeper batter Liton Das, Parvez Hossain Emon, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Hasan Mahmud, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib have returned to the ODI squad.

Parvez was previously selected in 2021 for the West Indies series but did not get a chance to play.

Meanwhile, along with Mushfiqur, Najmul, and Towhid, Mustafizur Rahman and Zakir Hasan were also omitted from the squad.

Mustafizur requested leave to be with his wife, who is expecting their first child in December, while Zakir was dropped due to poor form.

“Left-hander Zakir Hasan, who was part of last month’s ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE, has been dropped,” the BCB statement confirmed.
