Day-4 Highlights:

Jaker Ali and Taijul Islam has levelled the series with a historic win

Taijul took a fifer to set up a series-levelling victory.

Bangladesh scored 164 (1st Innings) and 268 (2nd Innings), where as West Indies scored 146 (1st Innings) and 185 (2nd Innings).

So, finally Bangladesh beat West Indies by 101 runs.

Bangladesh secured their first victory in the West Indies in 15 years and leveled the two-match series 1-1 on Day 5 at Sabina Park in Jamaica.

Jaker Ali’s counter-attacking 91 in the second innings set the hosts a target of 287, before left-arm spinner Taijul Islam tore through the West Indian batting order with a five-wicket haul (5-50) to seal the win.

Jaker, who was on 29 overnight, quickly got the scoreboard moving with a stylish flick to the boundary off Alzarri Joseph.

He was then tested by a barrage of bouncers, one of which struck him flush on the helmet.

He also survived a miscued pull that fell just short of the fine-leg fielder.

His partner, Taijul, was caught at slip after failing to adjust to the bounce.

Mominul, demoted to No. 8, was dismissed for a pair as the hosts tried to fight back.

Jaker adapted his technique by shuffling outside the off-stump, successfully defending each ball and avoiding an LBW dismissal.

His new approach paid off as he smashed two short deliveries from Joseph for sixes in a huge 18-run over.

He continued to attack with another six off Kemar Roach in the following over.

However, despite his brilliance, the tail couldn’t provide him support, with Hasan Mahmud caught at slip and Taskin Ahmed following soon after.

The last four batters contributed just four runs collectively.

Jaker, still under pressure from the short ball barrage of Alzarri and Shamar Joseph, managed to score quickly with two fours and two sixes in just three overs, reaching the nineties despite seven fielders stationed on the boundary.

He fell nine runs short of a well-deserved century when he pulled Alzarri straight to the deep mid-wicket fielder, and Bangladesh were bowled out for 268.

Facing a steep target of 287, Mikyle Louis and Kraigg Brathwaite were more aggressive than in the first innings, attacking anything wide from Taskin and racing to 23 off four overs.

Bangladesh turned to Taijul, who struck in his second delivery, with Louis being caught at short-leg after jamming a ball onto his boot.

Brathwaite responded with a few quick boundaries, but his partner Keacy Carty fell for 14 after a 43-ball stay, caught trying to drive Taskin through the covers.

Kavem Hodge and Brathwaite put together a threatening 35-run partnership as the hosts continued to find boundaries.

Taijul, however, got one to turn sharply from the West Indian captain, and with extra bounce, it caught the shoulder of Brathwaite’s bat and went to the keeper.

Alick Athanaze followed soon after, missing a booming drive off Taijul.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul bowled in tandem until lunch, but no further wickets fell.

Hodge reached his fifty after the Tea break, but he was given out LBW to a delivery that kept relatively low.

From there, the West Indies’ resistance collapsed as they lost their final five wickets for just 29 runs.

Justin Greaves and Joshua da Silva fell to Taijul, who claimed his third five-wicket haul against the West Indies.

Hasan and Nahid cleaned up the tail within two overs to seal Bangladesh’s victory.
