Mustafizur Rahman is doubtful for the West Indies tour in the month of December
Bangladesh pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman is unlikely to feature in the upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies, as he has requested leave from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for December to be with his wife, who is expecting a child.
A BCB official confirmed the request to Cricpulse, stating that a final decision will be made after Mustafizur returns from the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan.
“It’s true that he (Mustafizur) has asked for leave during the white-ball series against the West Indies, but we are yet to make a decision as there’s still time,” the official explained.
“Let him return, and we’ll discuss the matter to see if he can be available for one of the formats (ODIs or T20Is).”
The official emphasized that the family matter is a top priority.
“We must also consider that this is a personal and family issue, which takes precedence,” he added.
Mustafizur is expected to return to Dhaka on November 13 after the ODI series against Afghanistan concludes on November 11 in Sharjah.
He has not been part of Bangladesh’s Test squad in recent times and only plays in ODIs and T20Is.
Meanwhile, most of the Bangladesh Test squad members will depart for the West Indies from Dubai, with Mominul Haque and Taijul Islam joining them shortly.
The first Test of the tour will begin on November 22, followed by the second Test starting on November 30.
The white-ball series against the West Indies will commence with the ODI series on December 8, followed by the T20I series starting December 16.
