Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales each claimed three wickets to put the West Indies on the verge of securing a 1-0 series lead in Antigua, leaving Bangladesh just three wickets away from defeat despite a heroic six-wicket haul from Taskin Ahmed on a dramatic Day 4 that saw 17 wickets fall.
Bangladesh made a surprising declaration on the morning of Day 4 at 269 for 9, still trailing by 181 runs.
The West Indies were then dismissed for just 152 in their second innings, thanks to Taskin’s maiden Test five-wicket haul.
Taskin was relentless, maintaining an accurate line outside off and consistently challenging the West Indies batters, creating brief moments of hope for the visitors with regular wickets.
Taskin’s efforts triggered a couple of mini-collapses, with the first coming in an extended seven-over spell with the new ball.
Mikyle Louis lasted only 18 balls before edging behind to the keeper, and Keacy Carty followed soon after, offering a regulation catch to second slip.
Shoriful Islam made a breakthrough from the other end, removing the in-form Kraigg Brathwaite, who edged a low catch to Mahmudul Hasan Joy at second slip after scoring 23 off 35 balls, just before drinks.
Kavem Hodge and Alick Athanaze mounted some resistance in the second half of the session, reaching Lunch at 61 for 3, with a lead of 242.
However, the morning session had been dominated by Bangladesh following their bold declaration.
In the afternoon, both Hodge and Athanaze used DRS to successfully overturn LBW appeals, with Athanaze finding the boundary with increasing regularity.
Yet, Taskin ended their partnership by dismissing Hodge, caught behind in what was Litton Das’ 100th Test catch as wicketkeeper.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz followed up with another key strike, trapping Athanaze LBW in the next over, leaving the West Indies at 93 for 5, which quickly became 95 for 6 when Taskin cleaned up Justin Greaves cheaply for his fourth wicket of the morning.
At the drinks break, Taijul Islam joined the action, dismissing Joshua da Silva, who had counterattacked with 22 off 18 balls.
Alzarri Joseph, after surviving a couple of dropped catches, was eventually dismissed by Taskin, who then cleaned up the tail by removing Shamar Joseph and Roach.
Taskin’s six-wicket haul kept Bangladesh’s target for the West Indies’ fourth innings at a challenging yet achievable 334.
However, the visitors’ hopes of a fightback were quickly dashed.
Roach took three wickets with the new ball as Bangladesh collapsed to 23 for 4.
Litton Das tried to launch a counterattack, but was dismissed swiftly by Shamar.
Skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz fought valiantly, forming a couple of useful partnerships, notably with Jaker Ali, but Seales’ two late strikes left Bangladesh struggling at 109 for 7 when bad light forced an early end to play.
