1st T20I
Bangladesh team is shocked as USA team has taken early lead in the 1st T20 of the three-match series
Bangladesh scored 153/6 in 20 overs, where as USA scored 156/5 in 19.3 overs.
So, finally USA beat Bangladesh by 5 wickets.
In a stunning result, the USA managed to topple Bangladesh in the first T20I in Houston, securing a famous win and taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Harmeet Singh and former New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson were the heroes for the home side, starring in the memorable run chase.
Bangladesh’s top order, under pressure, made a poor start once again.
While Soumya Sarkar looked in decent touch, racing to 20 off just 12 balls, Litton Das’ woes continued.
Litton made a run-a-ball 14 before getting trapped leg-before-wicket in the powerplay, and Soumya fell soon after.
Skipper Najmul Shanto struggled to get going and was sent packing for an 11-ball 3, forcing the visitors to rely on their middle order for recovery.
Unfortunately for Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan struggled to make an impact, getting run out for a 12-ball 6.
Desperately needing a partnership, Towhid Hridoy joined forces with Mahmudullah to revive Bangladesh.
The duo added 67 crucial runs before Mahmudullah fell in the penultimate over.
Hridoy, who fell off the final ball of the innings, made a well-compiled half-century to ensure Bangladesh posted a fighting total on the board.
That total looked competitive for most of the chase.
Despite not losing many wickets, the USA remained cautious in their approach.
Steven Taylor made a 29-ball 28 after Monank Patel’s run out, putting the USA in a decent position.
However, a flurry of wickets turned the tide in the middle overs.
Mustafizur Rahman struck twice as the USA went from 65/1 to 78/4 in quick succession.
In their quest for recovery, the home side also lost Nitish Reddy, leaving the USA needing 60 more runs from just 31 balls.
This requirement quickly became 50 from 20 as the USA appeared to struggle with the chase.
However, back-to-back sixes from Harmeet Singh to round off the 17th over changed the game.
He then hit Shoriful Islam for a six and a four in the next over, bringing the equation down to a manageable 24 off 12.
Anderson, who hadn’t found the boundary until then, stepped up when it mattered most, hitting a clean six off Mustafizur before smashing Mahmudullah over the ropes in the final over to ease the nerves.
Harmeet, the star of the chase, finished the game with another boundary, securing a historic win for the USA.
