A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official announced on Friday (September 13) that the two-Test series against South Africa is expected to be played in Dhaka and Chattogram.
BCB officials remain optimistic that the series, which is part of the ICC World Test Championship, will proceed as scheduled despite concerns raised by the country’s political situation.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) plans to consult with the South African Cricketers Association (SACA) before finalizing their decision regarding the tour.
However, there are no current security concerns, and South Africa’s government has not issued any travel advisories against visiting Bangladesh.
The BCB has prepared a draft itinerary, which indicates that the South African team will arrive in Bangladesh on October 16.
The opening Test is set to take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka from October 21, while the second Test will be held at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, starting October 29.
The tour is expected to conclude with the team’s departure on November 3.
“We are hopeful that the tour will commence as scheduled and will make an official announcement in the coming days,” a BCB official told Cricpulse on Friday.
Recently, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup was moved from Bangladesh to the UAE due to political disturbances, and the New Zealand A team’s tour to Bangladesh was also rescheduled.
