The second Test of the upcoming two-match series between Pakistan and Bangladesh has been moved from Karachi to Rawalpindi
This change is due to the “deployment of heavy construction equipment and the need to adhere to tight redevelopment schedules” as the venue prepares to host matches for the ICC Champions Trophy in February 2025.
The decision was made in consultation with the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
“We have been advised by construction experts on the timelines for the venue’s readiness.
They indicated that while construction could continue during playing hours, the resulting noise pollution would disrupt the cricketers.
Furthermore, the dust from the construction could pose health risks to the players, officials, broadcasters, and media,” the PCB stated.
“Given the need for uninterrupted construction to ensure the venue is operationally ready for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the PCB, after consulting all stakeholders and reviewing operational and logistical matters, has decided to hold both Tests in Rawalpindi.”
In October, England is scheduled to tour Pakistan, with a Test match planned in Karachi.
The status of that game at the venue remains uncertain.
“At this stage, we do not wish to speculate on the hosting of the second Test in Karachi from October 15-19 and will continue to work closely with the architects and construction experts on the safe and secure hosting of the match, while keeping the England and Wales Cricket Board updated,” the PCB added.
The series against Bangladesh will begin with the first Test on August 21, while the relocated fixture will be played from August 30.
