Bangladesh has received a setback ahead of their two-match Test series against Pakistan, with regular opener Mahmudul Hasan ruled out due to a groin injury.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has yet to announce a replacement for him.

BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury confirmed to Cricpulse on August 17, “We have received a report indicating that Mahmudul sustained an injury to his right groin and will be rested for three weeks.”

Mahmudul, who was part of the Bangladesh A team that faced the Shaheens in Islamabad before joining the Test squad, suffered the injury while fielding and could not bat in the second innings.

Despite this, he was in good form, scoring 65 in the first innings against the Shaheens and having made 69 and 65 runs in the four-day matches for the High Performance Unit.

Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim is hopeful of recovering from a finger injury in time for the opening Test.

Rahim missed batting in the second innings for Bangladesh A due to the injury.

“I hurt my finger before going to bat in the second innings, so I did not bat.

Hopefully, I will recover soon and, inshallah, will play in the first Test,” Rahim stated in a BCB release.

The opening Test is set to begin in Rawalpindi on August 21, with the second Test scheduled for Karachi starting August 30.

Bangladesh is traveling to Islamabad from Lahore after completing a three-day practice session on August 17.

The team arrived in Pakistan early to acclimate to the conditions and ensure better preparation, despite political unrest affecting the country.
