At The Lunch of Day-2:
Pakistan scored 99/1 in 25 overs (1st Innings).
Shan Masood (53*) and Saim Ayub (43*) formed an unbeaten partnership of 99, guiding Pakistan to 99 for 1 at the end of the first session, following the early dismissal of Abdullah Shafique.
Taskin Ahmed, making his comeback to Test cricket, claimed the only wicket for Bangladesh in the opening over.
Taskin made an immediate impact by dismissing Shafique for a duck.
The batter misjudged an in-seamer that breached his defense and clipped the top of off stump.
Taskin skillfully set up Shafique by delivering five out-swingers before getting the final ball of the over to jag back in.
Bangladesh’s bowlers were on target in the first half-hour, maintaining a tight line and repeatedly beating the outside edge of the bat.
With pressure mounting on Pakistan, Saim Ayub and captain Shan Masood dug in, rotating the strike effectively and capitalizing on the large boundaries to run threes.
The duo shifted gears in the 10th over, hitting two boundaries square of the wicket in a 13-run over.
As the sun baked down, the pitch became more favorable for batting, and the pair took full advantage as the moisture evaporated from the surface.
Nahid Rana’s short-ball strategy briefly troubled Masood, who narrowly avoided chipping one to no man’s land.
However, Ayub responded by pulling Rana over square leg for a maximum.
Masood consistently dropped and ran for quick singles throughout the session.
Ayub also demonstrated his aggressive intent, stepping down the track to Mehidy Hasan Miraz and launching him over long-on for his second six of the innings.
While the bowlers occasionally troubled the batsmen with deliveries that angled away, they were unable to make further inroads.
Masood brought up his tenth half-century by driving one past mid-off for a couple of runs.
