Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling performance left Pakistan in a precarious position on the fifth day of the first Test in Rawalpindi.

Bangladesh struck regularly and effectively disrupted any potential partnerships, reducing Pakistan to 108 for 6 by Lunch, still trailing by 9 runs.

The day started brightly for Bangladesh as Hasan Mahmud found the outside edge of Shan Masood’s bat when the Pakistan skipper attempted a cut shot off a short-of-length delivery.

Initially, the on-field umpire ruled in favor of the batter, but Bangladesh successfully challenged the decision using DRS, with Ultra Edge showing a spike.

Babar Azam narrowly avoided a pair when he edged a delivery from Shoriful Islam, but Litton Das couldn’t hold onto the catch.

After a nervy start, Babar began to settle, hitting a confident cut shot off Mahmud for his first boundary.

Babar also edged a four off Shakib Al Hasan, though it wasn’t a controlled shot, as he got a thick edge while attempting another cut.

Meanwhile, Abdullah Shafique adopted a cautious approach and was tested by Nahid Rana in his first over.

Shafique got his first boundary of the day in an unconventional manner, trying to duck under a short ball from Rana, only for it to clip the back of the bat and sail over the wicketkeeper.

Rana consistently bowled at speeds over 145 kmph, and his persistence paid off when Babar attempted a cover drive but inside-edged the ball onto his stumps, departing for 22.

Pakistan’s troubles deepened as they slumped to 67/4 when Saud Shakeel was lured out of his crease by Shakib, trying to work the ball to the leg side, only to be stumped.

Mohammad Rizwan arrived with a positive intent, hitting three boundaries in an over off Rana.

Shafique and Rizwan also struck a boundary each off Shakib, helping Pakistan cross the 100-run mark.

The fifth-wicket partnership added a brisk 37 runs before Shakib ended it when Shafique, attempting to advance down the track, chipped a catch to backward point.

Agha Salman fell for a golden duck, edging a delivery from Mehidy Hasan Miraz while attempting a defensive shot, with Shadman Islam taking a sharp catch at slip, leaving Pakistan reeling at 105/6.

Bangladesh lost a review when Shakib appealed for an lbw against Shaheen Afridi, but the decision remained not out.

Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi remained unbeaten at Lunch, with Pakistan facing an uphill battle in the second session.
