Bangladesh trail by 249 runs.
Bangladesh’s slow but steady progress towards Pakistan’s imposing total faced a double blow in the post-lunch session as both set batters, Mominul Haque and Shadman Islam, were dismissed.
Shadman, just seven runs short of his second Test century, was bowled by Mohammad Ali, who managed to sneak one past his defense to shatter the stumps.
This crucial wicket ended the second session, leaving Bangladesh at 199 for 4, trailing Pakistan by 249 runs.
Earlier in the day, Mominul and Shadman had attempted to replicate their resilient performance from the three-hour morning session, where they had successfully resisted a Pakistan bowling attack eager for early breakthroughs.
Although Bangladesh lost opener Zakir Hasan and captain Najmul Hossain, the third-wicket partnership endured the entire session and extended into the afternoon, albeit at a very slow pace.
However, in the fourth over of the second session, Khurram Shahzad struck, getting a ball to nip back off a length and breach Mominul’s forward defense, sending him back for a well-earned 76-ball 50.
Mushfiqur Rahim then joined the other half-centurion, Shadman, in the middle, working together to keep Pakistan’s bowlers at bay.
In the 18 overs of the second session, Bangladesh added 65 runs, with Shadman contributing 40 of them.
The left-hander survived an LBW appeal on review and continued to push on, striking four boundaries off Agha Salman in the space of two overs.
When Naseem Shah was reintroduced into the attack, Shadman handled him similarly as he inched closer to his century.
But just as Shadman seemed poised to reach the milestone, Mohammad Ali intervened, breaking through his resistance to end the session and deliver a significant blow to Bangladesh’s determined fightback.
