Bangladesh versus India Test Series, 2024

2nd Test

Day-2 Highlights:

Rain has caused the complete washout of the second day in Kanpur

After a prolonged delay, play was officially called off for the day at 2:00 PM.

At The Stumps of Day-2:

Bangladesh scored 107/3 vs India.

Persistent rain and a damp outfield rendered the second day of the second Test between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur completely unplayable.

The severity of the weather and the condition of the outfield led to play being called off as early as 2:00 PM local time.

This marked the first washout of a day’s play in India since the 2015 Test in Bengaluru.

The day’s events were not unexpected in Kanpur, considering the pre-game forecast for the first three days.

The opening day allowed for only 35 overs of play, with Bangladesh navigating tricky conditions on an unpredictable pitch.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma chose to bowl first due to the overcast conditions and the potential moisture in the surface, a decision justified by the early movement available.

However, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj struggled to find their rhythm, and it was Akash Deep’s twin wickets that finally provided some relief for the hosts.

Mominul Haque and Najmul Shanto built a solid partnership for Bangladesh until Shanto was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin.

After the 35 overs played on the first day, there was promise of an exciting contest for Day 2.

Unfortunately, the inclement weather, which had already disrupted the opening day, ultimately claimed the entirety of the second day as well.
