Bangladesh scored 74-2 vs India

Under overcast skies, Bangladesh navigated a steady morning session on Day 1 of the second Test against India in Kanpur.

Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (28*) and Mominul Haque (17*) forged an unbroken 45-run partnership to resist India’s early advances in challenging conditions.

A delayed start due to a wet outfield, courtesy of overnight rain, influenced Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s decision to bowl first.

However, it quickly became clear that the Kanpur surface, with its grass cover and black soil, was markedly different from the bouncier deck seen in Chepauk.

While the pitch offered some movement, its low bounce and slower pace made scoring difficult.

India’s new-ball pair of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj managed to extract significant swing, troubling Bangladesh’s openers Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan.

The duo survived a few nervous moments before Akash Deep’s introduction changed the momentum.

India’s rising fast-bowling star struck in his very first over, getting Zakir to edge a sharp delivery to gully, where Yashasvi Jaiswal took a spectacular catch.

Shortly after, Deep trapped Shadman LBW, giving India the upper hand.

Akash Deep was the standout bowler of the session, maintaining a consistent line and length that kept Bangladesh’s batters under pressure.

However, Shanto and Mominul weathered the storm, digging in as conditions improved and the pitch quickened slightly as the morning progressed.

Though India kept up the pressure, the pair successfully held their ground, avoiding further damage.

Just as lunch approached, rain returned to halt play at a crucial juncture.
