1st Test
Day-1 Morning Session Highlights:
Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal has anchored India’s innings after Mahmud’s impactful performance

At The Lunch of Day-1:
India scored 88/3 (1st Innings) vs Bangladesh.
Hasan Mahmud made early inroads into the Indian batting lineup before Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant forged a crucial half-century partnership to steer India’s recovery during the opening session of the first Test in Chennai.
After Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto chose to bowl in overcast conditions, Mahmud provided a strong start by claiming three quick wickets.
Thanks to their unbeaten 54-run stand, Jaiswal and Pant guided India to 88/3 at Lunch on Day 1.
Taskin Ahmed initially tested Jaiswal with a couple of superb deliveries, generating bounce and movement that beat the outside edge.
He also got one to sharply nip back into Rohit Sharma, who narrowly survived a Bangladesh review when Mahmud’s delivery struck him on the pad, with the umpire’s call saving him.
The pitch’s moisture offered ample assistance to the seamers, who continued to challenge the Indian openers.
Rohit was the first to find the boundary with a drive past point off Mahmud, followed by Jaiswal with a flick off Taskin.
The partnership was broken when Mahmud got a delivery to move away from Rohit, who edged it to Najmul at second slip.
Jaiswal responded by taking on Taskin, hitting two boundaries with a cover drive and a straight drive.
However, India suffered another setback when Shubman Gill was caught down the leg side off Mahmud for a duck.
Virat Kohli, making his Test return after January, started cautiously but chased a wide delivery from Mahmud and was dismissed for 6.
India found themselves in trouble at 34/3 within the first hour.
Nahid Rana, the first change bowler, tested the Indian batters with his pace and bounce.
Pant, returning to Test cricket after nearly two years, got off the mark with a cut shot over backward point off Rana.
Mahmud continued his probing spell after the drinks break, keeping the batters under pressure with his accurate lines.
A loose delivery on Jaiswal’s pads was punished for a boundary, helping India reach the 50-run mark.
Rana’s pace suited Pant, who dispatched a full ball through covers and played an authoritative pull for a couple of boundaries.
Pant and Jaiswal rotated the strike effectively, with Jaiswal hitting two fours off Mehidy Hasan Miraz in his first over.
Pant also took on a short ball from Taskin, which fell short of the fielder.
He later struck a boundary through the offside off Mehidy and got an outside edge off Taskin that fell short of first slip, allowing the ball to reach the boundary and bring up the half-century stand.
