So, finally India beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets.
T20 champions India lived up to their title with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh at Gwalior’s new venue on Sunday.
Arshdeep Singh and Varun CV took three wickets each to bowl out the visitors for 127, before the Indian batters easily chased down the target in just 12 overs.
Bangladesh struggled to make an impact after Surya Kumar Yadav won the toss and opted to field.
Litton Das’s aggressive start backfired as he top-edged Arshdeep Singh’s delivery in the first over, caught by Rinku Singh.
Debutant Pervez Hossein Emon offered some resistance with a flicked six off Hardik Pandya, but was bowled by Arshdeep in the third over.
Mayank Yadav, making his much-anticipated debut, began with a maiden over inside the Power Play.
His pressure on Towhid Hridoy paid off when Varun CV, returning to T20I action after 86 matches, claimed Hridoy’s wicket as he lofted one to Hardik at long-on.
Mayank impressed with his pace, picking up his maiden T20I wicket—Mahmudullah— in his second over.
Bangladesh lost momentum as wickets continued to tumble.
Varun bowled Jaker Ali with a googly, finishing with career-best figures of 3/31.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz pushed the total past 100, but a double-wicket over in the 18th stifled any hopes of a late surge.
Mayank completed his debut with a tidy 19th over, conceding just three runs, before Arshdeep cleaned up Mustafizur Rahman to finish with 3/14.
India’s chase was a batting masterclass.
Sanju Samson set the tone with a stylish drive, while Abhishek Sharma added to Taskin Ahmed’s woes with a straight six.
Despite losing Abhishek to a run-out in the second over, India plundered 15 runs from it.
Surya Kumar Yadav, playing his trademark unconventional shots, targeted the boundary behind square, taking advantage of Taskin’s struggle.
Though Surya Kumar fell in the sixth over, India ended the Power Play at 71/2, their highest T20I Power Play score against Bangladesh.
Sanju Samson’s departure soon after didn’t slow India’s progress, as they reached 106/3 by the halfway mark.
Hardik Pandya delivered the shot of the match in the 12th over—a no-look ramp for four off Taskin—followed by another boundary and a six to seal the chase, remaining unbeaten with 39 off just 16 balls.
