New Zealand has selected uncapped Bella James for the ODI series against Australia

New Zealand Women have called up uncapped top-order batter Bella James for the upcoming ODI series against Australia at home.
James has been in exceptional form in domestic cricket, currently ranked as the second-highest run-scorer in the HBJ Shield.
The 25-year-old gets her opportunity after Georgia Plimmer was ruled out for the remainder of the year due to a bone stress reaction in her left hip.
In addition to Plimmer’s absence, New Zealand will also be without their highest wicket-taker, Lea Tahuhu, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained in the HBJ Shield.
However, Tahuhu is expected to be fully fit by next month.
Rosemary Mair, who hasn’t featured in an ODI since March 2022, makes her return to the 50-over format.
The Rose Bowl Trophy series, currently held by Australia, will begin on December 19, with the subsequent games scheduled for December 21 and 23.
“We’re really excited to give Bella her first call-up to international cricket,” said selector Sarah Tsukigawa.
“She’s worked hard at the domestic level for many years, and her current form in the HBJ Shield demonstrates why she deserves this opportunity.
Bella’s ability to hit powerfully all around the ground is a valuable asset.”
“It’s exciting to introduce another batter into the WHITE FERNS squad.
We believe that increased competition for roles will continue to elevate the quality of the team.
While we’re disappointed not to have Georgia or Lea for this series, injuries provide opportunities to explore how other players can contribute.”
