Australian spinners has struck back after the Ben Duckett’s century

Jamie Smith was clean bowled by Glenn Maxwell.

England scored 309 in 49.2 overs vs Australia.

Ben Duckett continued his impressive run as England’s ODI opener, reaching his second century in the format.

He and Harry Brook stitched together a crucial 132-run stand in just 16.2 overs, but Australia’s spin trio—Travis Head, Adam Zampa, and Glenn Maxwell—struck back to prevent England from amassing a massive total.

Despite this, England still managed to surpass the 300-run mark, largely thanks to Adil Rashid’s valuable 36 off 35 balls and his 33-run partnership with Olly Stone for the final wicket.

In overcast conditions at Bristol, Phil Salt got England off to a mixed start after Australia’s stand-in captain Steve Smith opted to bowl first.

Salt began and ended the opening over with stylish cover drives, though he was fortunate when one shot off the toe-end of his bat evaded second slip.

Salt and Duckett set a brisk pace until Aaron Hardie’s seventh over, which proved eventful.

Salt smashed two consecutive sixes and a four but then, chasing a full delivery outside off, he hit it straight to Marnus Labuschagne at deep point.

Duckett maintained the momentum, cracking three boundaries off Josh Hazlewood in the following over, but Hardie struck again, dismissing Will Jacks for a four-ball duck.

At 72/2, Australia may have felt in control, but Brook had other ideas.

He started cautiously but unleashed his aggression once Zampa was introduced.

Brook launched the first of his seven sixes in the 15th over, sparking a vital partnership with Duckett.

Brook’s blistering 72 off just 52 balls, featuring three fours and seven sixes, made him the leading run-scorer as captain in a bilateral ODI series against Australia (312 runs) and marked his third consecutive half-century.

Their partnership took England past 200 in the 25th over before Zampa turned the tide.

The leg-spinner, after being punished by Brook earlier, tossed one up that led to Brook holing out to long-off.

Maxwell soon bowled Jamie Smith, and Zampa dismissed Liam Livingstone, reducing England to 216/5.

Duckett was the next to fall, attempting to clear long-off but instead becoming Head’s first wicket.

Head followed that by stumping Jacob Bethell and trapping Brydon Carse LBW in quick succession.

Maxwell then accounted for Matthew Potts, leaving England struggling at 276/9.

With Australia poised to chase a sub-300 total, Rashid and Stone resisted, pushing the score past 300 before Head claimed his fourth wicket, dismissing Rashid in the final over.
