3rd ODI
Harry Brook has notched his first ODI century to keep the series alive
Australia scored 304/7 in 50 overs, where as England scored 254/4 in 37.4 overs.
So, finally England won by 46 runs (DLS method).
England’s stand-in skipper Harry Brook led the way with an unbeaten 110âhis maiden ODI centuryâcontributing significantly to a successful chase that kept the five-match series alive.
Brookâs remarkable innings, alongside Will Jacks’s solid 84 off 82, guided the home side in their pursuit of Australia’s total of 304/7.
The match was interrupted by rain, and with no further play possible, England was declared the winner by 46 runs via the DLS method, ending Australiaâs 14-match unbeaten streak in ODIs that had begun after their loss to South Africa in last yearâs ODI World Cup in India.
This victory also snapped England’s seven-match losing streak against Australia in this format.
The early stages of the match echoed previous encounters, as Alex Carey once again played a vital role in helping Australia post a competitive total.
His unbeaten 77, coupled with Steve Smith’s resilient half-century and contributions from Cameron Green (42 off 49) and Aaron Hardie (44 off 26), set Australia up well in their attempt to secure the series.
However, Englandâs innings got off to a rocky start, losing openers Phil Salt and Ben Duckett early to Mitchell Starc, which left them at 11/2.
Yet, Jacks and Brook turned the tide with a match-defining 156-run partnership off 147 balls.
Despite the gloomy weather and seamer-friendly conditions, the duo took control, finding boundaries with ease, and by the end of their innings, they had collectively hit 22 fours and three sixes.
With Adam Zampa absent, Mitchell Marsh relied on Glenn Maxwell and Matthew Short for spin options, but Short’s only over went for 12 runs while Brook reached his fifty.
Jacks also reached his fifty shortly after, and the pair continued to trouble Marsh’s bowling attack.
Eventually, Jacks was dismissed for a well-played 89 off 82 balls, which included nine fours and a six.
Brook, however, pressed on, supported by Liam Livingstone, who scored an unbeaten 33 off 20, leading them ahead of the required run rate.
Brook celebrated his maiden ODI ton by reaching 110 off 94 balls with 13 fours and two sixes.
The rain halted play when England was ahead of the par score by 46 runs (at 254/4 in 37.4 overs), and despite a brief glimmer of hope for play to resume, the rain returned, leading to a premature end to the match.
