South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the ongoing T20I series against Pakistan and the subsequent three-match ODI series.

The 31-year-old missed the opening game due to a contusion on his left big toe sustained during training.

Further scans revealed a fracture to his left toe.

All-rounder Dayyaan Galiem has been named as Nortje’s replacement.

The uncapped pacer has taken 46 wickets in 60 T20 matches so far.

Nortje, who has not played for South Africa since the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final in June, was his nation’s highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 15 scalps.

He has also opted out of a national contract due to workload management concerns.

Nortje joins a growing list of injured South African players.

Gerald Coetzee is sidelined with a groin injury, Nandre Burger is out with a lower back stress fracture, Lungi Ngidi is recovering from a hip injury, and Wiaan Mulder, who was ruled out after the first Test against Sri Lanka, is dealing with a broken finger.
