Rashid Khan, the Afghanistan star, will miss the opening Test of the two-match series against Zimbabwe due to personal reasons.

The 26-year-old, who had been named in Afghanistan’s squad for the series, last played in a Test against Zimbabwe in 2021.

His red-ball career has been limited recently following a back injury, which led him to take a break from Test cricket under medical advice.

As a result, he missed Afghanistan’s Test series against New Zealand.

Although Rashid was initially expected to be unavailable until November, he was later included in the 18-member squad for the Zimbabwe tour, with the first Test set to begin at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on December 26.

However, on Tuesday, Rashid posted a picture of himself in the Netherlands on the same day the Afghanistan Cricket Board shared images of the team preparing for the Test in Bulawayo.

There was no sign of Rashid in the ACB’s photos.

Sources confirmed to Cricpulse that Rashid will not be available for the opening Test.

“He (Rashid) is away for a charity event for the first Test as far as I am aware,” an official said.

The second Test will take place at the same venue in Bulawayo, starting January 2.
