So, finally Afghanistan beat Zimbabwe by 232 runs.

A comprehensive all-round display from Afghanistan saw them demolish Zimbabwe by 232 runs in the second ODI in Harare, taking a commanding 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Afghanistan first built a solid foundation with a 191-run opening partnership and then saw their bowlers dismantle Zimbabwe in just the 18th over.

Afghanistan’s 23-year-old opener Sediqullah Atal was the star, scoring his maiden ODI century with 104 off 128 balls, including eight fours and four sixes.

His opening partner, Abdul Malik, contributed 84, and together they took the game deep, batting until the 35th over after Zimbabwe’s captain, Craig Ervine, opted to bowl first.

For much of the innings, Zimbabwe’s bowlers struggled to find a breakthrough, as Atal and Malik dominated the partnership.

The 18-year-old left-arm pacer Newman Nyamhuri eventually broke the stand by removing Malik and went on to claim two more wickets – Azmatullah Omarzai and Atal.

Although Afghanistan lost a few wickets towards the end, finishing with 286/6, their total was more than enough given the poor Zimbabwean response.

The collapse started early with Ben Curran’s run out in the first over.

Afghanistan’s fast bowlers, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Omarzai, quickly made inroads, leaving Zimbabwe at a disastrous 11/4 by the seventh over.

The impressive AM Ghazanfar then took control, dismissing Sean Williams and Brian Bennett in quick succession, while Naveed Zadran kept up the pressure, taking three wickets and denying Sikandar Raza any significant support.

Zimbabwe’s collapse continued, and they ultimately crumbled to 54 all out, equaling their lowest ODI total against Afghanistan.
