Rashid Khan is set to return to Test cricket with the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe
Rashid Khan, the Afghanistan all-rounder, is set to return to Test cricket during the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe.
Afghanistan Cricket Board’s Chief Executive Naseeb Khan confirmed this news to Cricpulse on Tuesday.
The announcement followed the ACB’s earlier confirmation of their tour to Zimbabwe, which will include two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is.
Rashid had been sidelined from longer-format cricket on his physician’s advice due to a back injury, which led him to miss the Test series against New Zealand.
The ACB had indicated that he would be out of Test cricket until November, raising doubts about his inclusion in the squad for the Zimbabwe tour.
While Rashid missed the Test series against New Zealand, he participated in the white-ball matches, and it was anticipated that he would do the same for the series against Zimbabwe.
“We are confident that Rashid will play for us in the Test series against Zimbabwe,” Naseeb said.
“He had a long recovery due to his back surgery, and we wanted him to be fully healed before returning to the rigors of Test cricket.
Now, he looks fit and ready to contribute.”
The series will commence with a three-match T20I series scheduled for December 9, 11, and 12 at the Harare Sports Club.
This will be followed by three ODIs on December 15, 17, and 19 at the same venue.
The tour will conclude with a two-match Test series in Bulawayo, with the first Test taking place from December 26 to 30 and the second from January 2 to 6.
