3rd ODI
Bowlers and Aiden Markram has lead South Africa team to a consolation victory
Afghanistan scored 169 in 34 overs, where as South Africa scored 170/3 in 33 overs.
So, finally South Africa beat Afghanistan by 7 wickets.
South Africa’s bowlers worked in unison, followed by a clinical batting performance, to secure a consolation victory over Afghanistan in the third and final ODI in Sharjah.
Despite having lost the series, South Africa made an impressive start with the ball, taking two wickets within the first 10 overs to seize early control.
Although Rahmanullah Gurbaz showed promising form, consistently finding the boundary, his efforts were not enough to prevent a collapse after the loss of the third wicket.
Fresh off a century that secured Afghanistan’s historic series win, Gurbaz was in fine form, hitting sixes with ease.
However, a series of needless runouts hindered Afghanistan’s progress, resulting in an alarming eight batters being dismissed for single-digit scores.
Gurbaz, who struck four sixes and looked set for another century, was ultimately caught at cover point, falling just 11 runs short.
Afghanistan managed a mere 169 runs, with 16 overs remaining in their innings.
In pursuit of a consolation win, South Africa adopted a cautious approach, with their top three batsmen all getting off to starts but failing to convert them into significant scores, creating a momentary scare at 80/3.
However, Aiden Markram and Tristan Stubbs steadied the ship, capitalizing on Rashid Khan’s absence as they navigated the middle overs with ease.
Markram showcased his hitting ability, clearing the boundary three times, including two sixes in one over from Mohammad Nabi.
He ultimately reached a well-crafted half-century, while Stubbs played a supportive role.
The pair formed an unbeaten 90-run partnership that solidified South Africa’s victory.
