Zia-ur-Rehman claimed a five-wicket haul, yet Ireland maintained the advantage on Day 2 of the one-off Test at Tolerance Oval in Abu Dhabi.
Ireland posted 263 in the first innings, led by Paul Stirling’s half-century and contributions from the lower order, securing a 108-run lead.
Afghanistan improved in their second innings, finishing at 134/3, ahead by 26 runs.
Ireland, starting Day 2 at 100/4, faced pressure when Naveen Zadran dismissed Harry Tector early.
Stirling’s resilient 52, supported by Lorcan Tucker, saw an 80-run partnership.
Zahir Khan dismissed Stirling just before Lunch.
